As Executive Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO, Prof. Wilhelm Bauer manages a research organisation with around 650 employees. He’s responsible for research and implementation projects in the fields of innovation research, technology management, life and work in the future, and smarter cities. Prof. Bauer is also Deputy Director of the Institute of Human Factors and Technology Management IAT of the University of Stuttgart, Chairman of the Fraunhofer Group for Innovation Research, Executive Director of Fraunhofer Italia Research s.c.a.r.l. and member of the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
As a member of a variety of committees, Prof. Bauer is a political and business advisor. He’s a member of the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG) of the European Commission as well as Co-Director of the “Future of Work and Human-Machine Interaction” working group of “Lernende Systeme – Germany’s Platform for Artificial Intelligence”. Prof. Bauer has published more than 400 scientific and technical works and is a lecturer at the Universities of Stuttgart and Hanover. In 2012, the State of Baden-Württemberg presented Prof. Bauer with the title “Tomorrow Maker”.
