Professor Roman Dumitrescu is director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronics Systems Design IEM and head of the department "Advanced Systems Engineering" at the University of Paderborn. Since the beginning of 2019, he has also been a member of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute board of directors, is a part of numerous expert panels and has various scientific responsibilities.
Among other roles, he is the managing director of the Intelligent Technical Systems OstWestfalenLippe (it’s OWL) technology network and, within it’s OWL Clustermanagement GmbH, is responsible for the areas of strategy, research and development and technology transfer, in particular to small and medium-sized enterprises. He is a member of the research advisory board of the Research Association Molded Interconnected Devices 3-D MID e.V. His research focuses on interdisciplinary development management, model-based system development and numerous key technologies related to digitisation such as virtual and augmented reality, machine learning, location-based services and moulded interconnected devices (MID).
Professor Dumitrescu studied mechatronics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and, in 2010, obtained his doctorate in systems engineering for intelligent mechatronic systems.
