Alexander Gunkel is alternating Chairman of the Federal Board of Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund (DRV Bund) as well as Chairman of the Board of Versorgungsverband deutscher Wirtschaftsorganisationen (VdW). He is also Deputy Chairman of the German Social Advisory Council, responsible for pension insurance. Gunkel is a member of the supervisory boards of Pensions-Sicherungs-Verein auf Gegenseitigkeit (PSVaG) and VdW Pensionsfonds AG, and sits on the Board of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
Alexander Gunkel studied law with a focus on labour law at Saarland University as well as French law at Centre d’Etudes Juridiques Françaises. After completing his legal clerkship with the Saarland higher regional court in 1996, he joined the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations (BDA), where he was a research associate in the Social Security department. From 1999, he was Office Manager for the President and CEO of the BDA. In 2003 he was appointed member of the BDA Executive Board. Gunkel was also alternating Chairman of the Board of Verband Deutscher Rentenversicherungsträger and a member of the Board of Bundesversicherungsanstalt für Angestellte.
